we brought home these 2 gold phase Welsh Harlequins yesterday, left them in the pen inside the duck fence for a couple hours with some food and water, everything seemed to be ok, so we let them out. nothing really horrible has happened, but our runners aren't being very nice, largely the others, our original 5 are leaving them alone, but the runners keep chasing them off. last night I decided we would see what happened putting them all together in the duck house, Petunia, one of the runners was being really aggressive chasing and biting, so we put the dog kennel in the duck house for the Welshies, seemed ok, had 8 of a possible 9 eggs this morning despite the hubbub and 2 from the Welshies. today again, nothing horrible but they aren't exactly being accepting, the poor Welshies get kicked out of the pool, kicked out of the food dish, and kicked out of all the good mud puddles, the Runners seem happy to finally have someone who they can bully. hoping things even out here in the next couple weeks, the girl who is going to watch them for us when we go camping on Memorial Day was here this morning, I don't want to leave her with a nightmare to deal with.

They are really cute!

It went like that for weeks the last time I introduced a new duck to my flock. My existing flock never loved her like they loved everyone else, but they did stop chasing and biting her. I set up extra food and water stations for her so she would have somewhere to get resources when she got chased away from the "best" ones.

I would say the best thing you can do is just put out several food and water sources so that there are plenty for all the ducks. Only time will tell how things end up, my flock mostly gets along but my duck Penguin still picks on my newest duck Karen all the time, even though she's been here for months. I would also suggest maybe putting the offending party in the dog crate instead of the new girls, just as a kind of punishment for when they are being bad. I installed a camera in my coop at night so I can keep an eye on them and every time Penguin bullies Karen in the coop, she gets to spend the night in jail.

😂😂 that is hilarious!
I agree with jail for the bully. It's suppose to keep them in check with their status.
I have a coop cam too. I'm glad I'm not the only one lol

I also admit to the coop cam. Sometimes I need to check on (spy on) them when I'm at work! Or having dinner... Or brushing my teeth... Or in the middle of the night... 🤣

Or at 2 a.m....
I lost a guinea to a black snake last year and I am paranoid now. Everything got triple reinforced but still...

It's best to let them live side by side with fencing in between so they can all get use to each other. Of course they are going to see the new kids on the block as intruders. And there is always one that just can't help but be the bully.
They have been in the same very large fenced in yard during the day, when I built my coop it wasn’t on my mind to have to separate , wish it had been, next time it will, however, the crate keeps them safe I guess. They came from a beautiful place with 20-30 other ducks so i feel badly, poor things had it good, now my runners are being big jerks .
also they dont seem to know about meal worms or peas. I have to get in touch to see what if anything was used for treats.

Ill teach her to be a jerk, stuffed her right in the pen with them, perhaps it will teach some team building skills?
