Once again, you guys rock! I've asked all kinds of chicken questions and you guys always have great answers!!

We have 5, 1 rooster, 4 hens, all are Buff Orpingtons. They are about 9-10 months old. Everybody gets along great! Watched thru a small window last night before their light went out and they groom each other, cleaning each other's feet, butts, heads. It was pretty funny to watch.

Scooby Roo crows alot during the day and I read that to quiet him down that maybe he needs more women to take care of. Is there truth to that? Does he crow because he is bored or is he looking for more hens??

Anyway we were thinking about another 2-4 hens. Good idea? The new ones would come from the same batch as these guys.
Thanks

He crows because he's a young rooster and that's what young roosters do. Only way to make him quite down is with the axe. As far as getting more chickens, see my sig line.

We could just get more from the same person that have us the first 5.

Do you have enough room in your coop/run? there will be some initial pecking order stress, but if there's enough room, they'll work it out. When you put the new birds in, be sure hey have places to get away from the older birds, and give them a separate feed/water station. I'd recommend a quarantine period, even if they are coming from the same supplier. A lot can happen in a flock in 2 years time. Good luck. enjoy.

Definitely quarantine any new birds. You could also add chicks.

Did I say 2 years? We've only had them for 2-3 weeks. Doesn't matter anyway, that same guy we got them from says he doesn't have anymore to give out.
Our coop is plenty big enough. I'll get a pic of it sometime today. Our rooster is not mating with the hens too much. Everyone seems to get along pretty well. I could watch them for hours. It's very relaxing:)
