We are new to chickens...our chicks are only 2 weeks old but I'm thinking about getting a bigger coop and more chickens already. My daughter took the chicks to kindergarten and they were a huge hit. The 5th grader teacher is thinking about incubating eggs as a class project. I'm thinking about ordering some french marans and ameracauna hatching eggs. I only want one or two hens of each kind, but understand the odds of getting a successful hatch of female chicks. If we end up with males of these breeds, how hard is it to find homes for the males? in Los Angeles? I plan on buying eggs from a good breeder.
