Thinking ahead - honeysuckle and cherry in future chicken yard

do you mean for the chicken tunnels or the run in general? their current run is 17x4, and I only have two chickens at the moment but getting a couple more in the spring

4 foot wide for four would probably be fine. I tend to think in larger numbers. Like being down to 20.

To keep the saplings safe, your idea of the chicken/welded wire ring is a good one. I do that with the young peach trees I have planted in my run.

Once the saplings are a bit taller and more established, you can remove the ring and put some flat rocks/logs around the base of the tree to keep the flock from scratching up the roots.
