Okay, I want to start by asking if it should be okay to separate my flock into two coops. I want to either buy two coops each with two nesting boxes or build one with 4 nesting boxes for my 12 chickens.
But to my main point, I'm debating whether to use shavings(which my family already gets for the other 31 chickens(soon to be 40)) or to use sand for my coop(s). Honestly, any ideas would help.

Sand will allow them to dust bath anywhere they want and it so easy to clean ! The wood chips are cheaper but some times it can get mold in the wood and it absorbs more than sand then that would get chickens sick over time....you can use what ever you want but You might need to clean them out at different times. Hope this helps:fl
