Wow I hadn't even heard about any of this. I usually get my daily news fix and then head out to do other things. But today things were a mess around here, DD missed her bus and had to drive her in to school and then decided to do my grocery shopping. I have friends in New Zealand but not sure how close to where it occurred they could be. I haven't seen any new updates from them on my FB at all since 2 days ago. I grew up with one of these friends, so I really hope all is alright with everyone.

Will keep everyone in New Zealand in my prayers.

I'm praying for the Kiwis on our forum and everyone affected by the NZEQ...I hope it's hurt fewer people than it appears to have. I hope everyone trapped is recovered alive!!

My sister-in-law and her family live in Christchurch and we got word just minutes after the quake. Their house suffered severe damage but it didn't fall. She talked to me on FB this morning and told me their house was thought to be a total loss at first but seems they can repair the damage. My SIL is a Paramedic there and she attended a lot of the very badly/fallen buildings trying to get people out. Its very sad

I am just happy she, her husband and their two year old son are ok.

This was the first thing I heard when I woke up this morning. Oh how sad for all these people and their families.

There are several BYCers from New Zealand on here.

I pray for everyone involved and all the critters too.

it's pretty unbelievably crazy here at the moment

getting after shocks all the time. raced into town to find my fiancée and did thank god. place was like a war zone, collapsed buildings, injured and crying people every where. all my family are ok, some injured friends, but news is just starting to float in really, hoping to not here anything to bad...

water and power just back on now. had to take a break from it all to look at funny photos of chickens and read funny stories about them to distract myself so came on here.

oh and built a pretty flash long drop in the backyard first thing this morning, won't have a working sewerage system for a while.

oh and all the chickens survived! i got back home about an hour after the big one and all but one were hiding down the back looking startled still. hunted and hunted for the other the one and then found her sitting in a nest box happy as.

the fish tank came down and smashed. found a fish on the soggy carpet and picked it up and it started flapping in my hand! the two goldfish and three of the six mountain minnows survived the hour or so on the floor and are swimming around in a bowl now.

the cat was nowhere to be seen but she showed up in the morning all wide eyed, at some food, had a drink and ran off again so she's all good too!

Well I am happy all is well with you for the most part and that the chickens were ok too. Found out today my friends are in Wanaka (sp?) not sure how far it is from where it happened but they said all was well with them. keep us posted.
