Hello fellow backyard chicken ranchers!

My wife & I are raising our 3rd batch of chickens in a suburban back yard. We always aim for 4-5 hens so we get 6-8 baby chicks since sexing a chick seems to be more art than science. The roosters go to nearby ranches. We built the coop out of 2x4's and hardware cloth, it's 8' wide, 12' deep and 6' high with an enclosed 8'x3'x3' roost & nesting box. We call it the Chick Inn, though my wife painted it purple, so I call it the Egg Plant. In hind-sight I wish we built it out of PVC pipe so I could move it.

Our first batch all died from old age or worms. Our second batch are old ladies now. With 5 hens we might get an egg every other day. Our 3rd batch are all about 2 months old. Here they are.

I'm excited to have a place to ask questions and talk to other people who are raising chickens.
