dh and I processed some chickens yesterday. we gave them to a friend of ours . Well as many know we have been trying to downsize. we have too many chickens. well yesterday we got rid of 8. 1 huge ameraucana roo and 1 rhode island red roo, 5 buff cornish's 1 roo and 4 hens, and 1 rir hen. we still have 20 something chickens to go. I hate having to kill a hen. It bothers me so bad. I know that the meat went to someone that could use it. But she had eggs that were developing in her. I have a bunch more hens that he is going to butcher and I hate it. I feel like it is a waste. but we honestly dont have the room for them. I have posted everywhere in our area to sell them 26 birds for 60.00 that is 2.30 a chicken . no one wants them. This is really killing me having to butcher my girls that I have raised since babies. Does it bother anyone else to have to kill a hen, that is laying?! boy it sure does me.

what konds of hens and how old were they? Maybe that is it??? Thats is sad I would have hopped on it if I were closer and they were young like less than a year!

Where are you in KY? I'm new to chickens this year, and we're pretty satisfied with the size of our flock, but I've been considering getting a few EE's. How old are your birds?

the EE's and rhode island reds are a 1 1/2 the ee's are a couple of months younger than the reds. and I live in so. east ky
