I redid the run, (thank you DH) and started over with 4 hens which really kept the two of us easily in eggs, well my nieces hen went broody, got eggs (You and I know more is better)+ several days of 110 degrees, one chick hatched. I slipped that under one of the 4 hens who had in the mean time went broody... Last week two more of my hens went broody...so (yes I know it is nearly the end of September in SD... what the hay) put 6 eggs under each hen. If half of them hatch...I will have too many. Mean while, hoping the hen with the chick may come back into lay...cause I am headed to my niece for EGGS to eat! And that is chicken math, never the right number, always feast or famine, but such a fascinating hobby.
