Virginia is for Chick Lovers!
SOMEONE, namely my husband!, forgot to shut the quail pen last night. This morning I only have 5 quail left!!

I know that one is dead.

My dog killed it, and I saw him do it. Poor little quail was trying to get back into the aviary, and couldn't.

Two are in the hay field. I can't catch them. They went under the tail grass. My daughter and I tried to find them, but can't. She even rode her horse all through the field trying to get them to fly up so I could get them.

The wild bobwhites are calling away this morning. I wonder if they hear the babies, and are trying to lure them? I hope my babies know what the call means, and go into safety.

As gross as this may be, can someone tell me how to process the one my dog killed? I hope I have the strength to do it. I threw it at hubby and said good morning, now you can have quail for supper! He left it laying on the kitchen counter.

I'm so sad. SO hurt, and so angry. I'm worried to death about the ones that escaped, and pray they are OK.

Caught another one as it was trying to get back in. Now have 6.

I got them the first week of July, and they were a week old then. So still tiny things.

If I leave some food out there, ya think they will come back? I can't bare to think of them starving.

Sorry about the mishap with your quail. I'd lock the dog up, then put some food around the pen, so if they do come back, they have something to keep them busy so you can catch them. Good luck...I hope you get them back.

I lost one last night also...his legs were pulled off and his neck was skinned. When I got up this morning I smelled skunk so that may be the culprit. I will set the trap tonight but I really really don't want to catch a skunk and have to deal with that.

Sorry For The Ugly Time You Are In..... I Know Trainer That Use Live Traps To Regain Birds They Have Released For Dog Training Purposes, But Those Are Adult Birds.... I Dont Know If It Will Work For Babies. The Other Babies Calling Will Help Bring Them Back To Your Aviary. I Would At Least Give 'em A Cage Or Something Safe To Run Into And Hide If They Do Come Back To Your Aviary. That Way If The Dog Or Something Else Goes Over To The Aviary And 1 Is Hanging Around Then It Can Hide And Be Safe Until Found By You And Be Returned To The Aviary. Hope You Get More Back...
