I am incubating eggs and I have 2 fully wet sponges in my incubator and the pans in the bottom of it are full an the humidity is only 45%!!! I dont get it! What do I do? Is my humidity reader thingy way off or what? Thanks!

What kind of hygrometer are you using?

If you are using a digital with a probe, then probe usually only reads temp. You have to put the whole thing in the bator to get the humidity. This happens alot.

ummm... mine is a spring field precise temp. I dont know if thats what u meant or not. I put in the incubator.
It shows temp and humidity. Hope this helps!

You calibrate it by mixing a 1/2 cup salt and 1/4 cup water in glass or mug and put the mug and your hygrometer in the bag also, not in the mixture, just along side and seal up the bag. After 12 hrs it should read 75%. If it doesn't, you will know how far it is off. Since you have already put eggs in, if you can, I would buy another one and calibrate it, then put it in the bator and compare it with the other one. This way you will know for sure where you are at. If it is really far off, I would return it. I bought three of them before I found one that was correct. Good luck.
