I'm glad to find someone else that thinks Man O' War is the best. He never technically won the triple crown but we know he would have had those races even been called that the triple crown back then. Secretariat is a close second and if they raced each other 10 times, I'm not sure who would be the victor in the end honestly. They were both amazing animals but with differences in shoes and racing surfaces it's only speculation at this point. I'm such a geek about Secretariat that I can recall the winning times for all 3 triple crown races for him and remember most of the call from the announcer for the Belmont. I remember watching all 3 of those on TV when I was younger. (Yes, I'm that old - LOL). What an amazing race, brings tears to my eyes still. I just love that you can find color footage of Man O' War on youtube. My grandfather had a picture of Man O' War autographed by his owner, he said he used to sell him hay and alfalfa ages ago. I wish I still had that picture. It was lost sadly. I haven't kept up with horse racing more recently much, I've been rather unhappy with the poor breeding practices of the industry. If you are properly breeding for sound and healthy horses you shouldn't need all the drugs and have horses breaking down on the track from weak legs and other medical issues. I know the AP Indy line figures prominently into many pedigrees but I think that line is inherently weak and was over bred and inbred way too much. Just my two cents worth.I love racehorses and I have memorized all of the Triple Crown winners from the first one Sir Barton in 1919 to Justify in 2018 and I love all the famous ones I think Man O'War is the best but my favorite would have to be American Pharoah the 12th Triple crown which he won in 2015.
