Those little rascals

I had some coons ripped our duct work out one winter in a bedroom. One of them got cut and died under the crawl space.Yes they're relentless but thank God my chickens are hard to get so they hunt across the street instead of here.My coop is very close to my house which discourages them .I also have a Basset that goes ballistic anytime a critter come around. He's terrified of bears though.
My coops are probably 60' from the house in my fenced in backyard. My dogs do a good job keeping critters away.... Except coons and opossum. They climb the fence and head to the coops. Birds freak out and fly into the walls of the run. If they would pass on by like the fox, I wouldn't care, but they don't. Leah has gotten 3 opossum this spring and one coon. I see fox and coyotes every now and then outside the fence sniffing around, but they don't try to get past the fence. Don't think my dogs have see a bear. There around. They raid my dumpster every now and then.

You do what ever you want,,, but Just wanted to inform you this. You kill this one,, and another one will move in to take his place. Will the killing ever stop??:idunno
I deal with such in my backyard also. My solution; I have a secure coop. I lock up the coop every night. I remove feed, and WATER every night. I store feed, in metal containers,, no more plastic for me. Note that I did include the water to be removed. This way night time visitors do not make my chicken area, a regular stop. WATER, I just spill out, and place containers upside-down to dry. Chickens get fresh clean water daily this way.
The lil rascal is only trying to eat,,, not do purposeful harm.

Try my approach, and you may have success.

WISHING YOU BEST,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and:welcome
this is exactly what I do too, right now to tipping/flipping the containers! We haven't had any troubles either and I know there is a fox that hangs out around our property and the roadkill shows 'coons and 'possums.

Our coop was built 20 foot from our back door because the woods and trees behind us.I never go out the the coop at night without putting the dogs out first to see if they bark.

Lol, I do the same thing, dogs first... Lots of woods in my area as well. We hear coyotes behind the house frequently. Most of the properties around here are large parcels, 10+ acres with many 100+. Never ending supply of predators.
