To those of you who sell meat birds, do you have a "waiver" that you have people sign when they buy? I think I read somewhere on here that some people have a waiver to sign. I presume it just states that they will not sue if they get sick from undercooked meat, etc. If someone has one, could you PM me please?

You might check with a lawyer, but I suspect that any sort of waiver like that isn't worth the paper it is printed on. If someone gets sick eating food that you've sold them, no waiver in the world is going to protect you.

In fact, a lawyer would probably use your waiver to prove to a jury that you knew your food would make people sick.

Instead of trying to outsmart the law, buy some really good liability insurance before you sell to the public. Then use extreme sanitation measures to make sure there is no possible source of contamination.

I've never heard of a waiver being used, but maybe some people use one. We have liability insurance and, as required by the USDA, our labels have safe handling instructions printed on one side.

You could hand each buyer a sheet with instructions on how to safely handle raw poultry. Then make them sign a receipt that says they received the instructions.

Burt seriously: lots and lots of liability insurance.
