So I show birds and fair entries are coming up. However I'm hesitant because of bird flu so I'm not sure what to do. Wondering what's happening around dutchess county New York when it comes to this horrible disease. Looking for thoughts and what you would do?

You could try your New York thread and see if you could gather info of where bird flu outbreaks may be.

As for poultry swaps, we used to go for years, but last year we stopped due to the biohazards of it. We don't show, but that would at least be a little better than a swap. I'm not so sure I'd go, but if you can find out how prevalent it is there, that would make a difference.

The bird flu spreads so fast through a flock, they either have it or they don't. It kills whole flocks in a couple of days, so there aren't going to be "asymptomatics" infecting the show. Your birds aren't more likely to get avian influenza at a show than at home. However, other diseases are always a risk at shows. It's a risk I'm willing to take but I always quarantine my show birds when I bring them home.
