I have been planning my first flock and researching breeds, I am interested in egg production and friendly birds that I can enjoy watching in my yard.
I am also considering multiple breeds so I was curious about the Gold Sex Link. Any advise or comments?

I think Gold sex links are great! Our GSL Phil, lays jumbo sized eggs that are almost perfectly round. We get 4-5 eggs a week from her. They are actually pretty quiet too. I hope this helps!

Golden Sex Link is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links which are bred by crossing red gene roosters with silver gene hens. Not only can they be sexed by color from hatching (males are whitish, females are reddish/goldish) but they are egg laying machines, consistently churning out more than 300 large brown eggs per hen per year. If you are going to get sex links, you might also want to consider the Black Sex Links (Black Stars). Black Sex Links are produced by crossing red gene roosters (usually RIRs) with barred hens (usually Barred Rocks) and like the Golden/Red Sex Links, they are egg laying machines. Male BSL chicks have a white spot on top of their heads and female BSL chicks lack the white spot. I've had both sex link varieties and actually slightly prefer the Blacks to the Golden/Reds as my Blacks have been friendlier than my Golden/Reds, have tended to have a longer laying life, and have been especially persistent layers in really cold winter weather. However I don't think you can go wrong with either sex link variety.
