Thoughts on Speckled Sussex

We had some speckled Sussex girls. But, they were only ok layers. Neither went broody that I was aware of. However, with that said, they were from a breeder with exhibition quality birds. Exhibition/show quality does not mean laying or broody traits were selected for. All exhibition lines we’ve had (4)of four different breeds, they have all be just moderate or poor layers (but look great while not laying many eggs). Broody: we’ve had many breeds, and the only great momma hen was a black Australorp. We had a couple other breeds fo broody, but they never stayed broody long enough to hatch chicks, or adopt 1-2 day old chicks.
