Sometimes when subjects spark heated off topic rants, a thread will get locked.
If there was a good bit of contention on the thread and the OP got the answer they were looking for admins will often close the thread to prevent it from going off the rails.
Not to be contentious but...how are they to determine the poster "got the answer they wanted"? I think it should be up to the creator to close their own thread
Ah. Im not a premium so i didnt know that. Maybe thats the perk i guess..
It is one of many perks.
Sometimes they message the OP, or if it has gotten too contentious, ask them to ask any follow up questions in a new thread.
I know that they will close down a thread for inappropriate content and that makes sense since there are children on this site as well as adults. Ive never been contacted about having a thread closed...im pretty sure all my threads are still open. I like the idea of zombie threads as it gives people a chance to continue the conversation to address a similar question. Sometimes people dont get the answers they need/want when the knowledgeable people havent given the new thread attention.
