So I've got three hens who are playing mother to six chicks. They don't have two each, instead, they just kind of mass together. Sometimes a hen has all of them, sometimes a few, or none of them.

The chicks are doing well. It is just rather, unusual. I had three broodies, and when chicks arrived, they all sort of ganged up to raise them. I am glad, because the girls will get back to laying once the chick raising is out of their systems! I've just never heard of so many hens trying to take care of a group of chicks!

I was just looking on here for this answer...CAN TWO HENS GET ALONG RAISING CHICKS ?
I have two silkie hens... one went broody and i stuck 3 americana chicks under her and then the other one went broody a few days later.... luck would have it that a friend brought over a two day old Australorp chick(only survivor of three)and so i put it under the hen that just went broody....she excepted it right away, i knew she wanted to be a mama. The first hen has 3 chicks that are 2weeks old now and the second hen has the one and is 1 week old now....they coop together at night and today was the first day the second hen brought out her one little chick . Too my surprise the other hen came over and kept trying to peck at the younger chick...the mother hen and i shooed her off..... after seeing that, i kept an eye on them and it didn't happen again. should i worry? Thanks~
