So my three year old Leghorn has been a very healthy chicken until about two days ago. She laid an egg in the chicken yard that was normal, but had a little blood on the outside of the shell. Her backside was nasty and at first glance from far off I thought prolapsed vent. I got her cleaned up and inspected her vent and it looks normal. She does have terrible diarrhea and I separated her from the rest of my flock. In a little over 24 hours she laid THREE, yes THREE, shell-less eggs. It's super hot here in the south, but she has had tons of fresh cool water to drink. She isn't acting lethargic, more just hot. It's really the eggs that have me worried, she's never had a shell-less egg, but I know that's not all that abnormal, but certainly three is too many in 24 hours.....right?

That is a lot!

It was likely a glitch, maybe caused by drinking so much in the heat. She tried to lay too many eggs and didn't have time to wrap them in a shell. You could try lowering her food in take and putting her in a dark (not pitch black) crate for a day so that she has time to get back on track.

I hope this helps. Best of luck!
