Thyroid surgery

Just have to get this off my chest. I have had thyroid issues for years now. Thought it was taken care of 10 years ago when I went through radiation but recently found out that's not the case. I now have a very calcified nodule in my thyroid gland. Have had 2 needle biopsies both of which have been non diagnostic. I'm talking to a surgeon tomorrow and will probably be going through surgery soon. Crap! Thank God I have chickens! They make me laugh every day and make this whole thing easier to deal with.

Take a deep breath. It will be okay, if it it cancer thyroid type has good prognosis. I would be scared though too. The nodule could be benign and you still might need surgery. My heart is with you..

One of my brothers was diagnosed with thyroid cancer several years ago. Had his thyroid removed and went through radiation treatment. He's doing great, now, on synthetic thyroid hormone. The treatment wasn't fun, but it's certainly better to be thyroid-less and healthy than to retain the thyroid and feel like crap all the time.

I work with a gal who had pre-cancerous nodules on hers and had it taken out in a very short procedure. Overnight stay in the hospital (this was about 6 years ago?) and is fine to this day. She takes Synthroid.

I have Thyroid disease too but mine is auto-immune.

DW had hers removed (well half of it anyway) She was up and about in three days no problem.
It will oook NASTY for about 5 to 6 days then you'll not even notice. They did DW's incision right on a wrinkle.
She has NO SCAR and only takes one pill every morning.

Just follow the rules they give you and you'll have no problems!

Met with the surgeon today and really liked him. He's saying I need one side or lobe removed right now. Best case, that's it. Worst case, it's cancer and I have to go back to have the rest removed and then go for more treatment. I'm going with best case right now. Have to wait for his nurse to get in touch with a date for the surgery. Hope it's not too far off. I'm ready to get this whole thing over with!! Thank you all for the support. Between you and my chickens, I'm doing all right!
