So my life is chaotic, I started the attempt to track my hens' productivity.
And I realized I get next to no eggs from my Barred Rock girls.
All I am getting are the large RIR eggs and a steady stream of smaller greenish beige ones. I have not gotten a pink one. last week.
I did find the empty, crushed shell of one (along with one of the green ones)
The pink shells always seem thinner.

The birds seem fine.
So, do I have an egg eater, a couple of non-layers, or something eating my eggs?
I still get on average 2 eggs a day

Hen’s will eat their own eggs sometimes if they haven’t learned not to (putting decoys in nests that won’t crack with a peck). It’s a habit nearly impossible to break, so try to collect as often as possible, or try a different bedding material. Also some breeds will lay less than others and take longer to produce than others so it may be a waiting game to see.

one brown, one green today again.
I have seriously not gotten a pink one all week.
Weird.
Maybe because I switched to Layena from TSC? (ducks and hides)
definitive coop revamp time.

I would try adding offering some oyster shell. If they’re thin, maybe the ladies aren’t getting quite enough. That could also prompt them to eat their eggs. They’ll devour the shell too and leave no trace. How old are they? My RIR’s were one of the earliest breeds I’ve ever had to lay.

they are less than a year old. about 10 months.
I had been giving them crushed eggshells and wonder now if I created a monster.
I mean, getting 2 eggs a day is splendid. I just noticed the lack of variety.
I definitely need to put more oyster shell out.
Right now they are getting layena.
