time line for vent drying in non laying hens.

How long does it take after after a hen quits laying for her vent to dry and get tight? How do I know if this is a permanent/long term change or the result of daylight hours/molting?

Never timed it, or even really bothered observing that often(other than checking a few hens the 3rd winter to see if pelvic bones 'closed' and vent 'dried'-they did).
It's temporary until they start laying again.
