In the Brooder
Hi, my name is Hannah.
I live on a small farm in the beautiful Natal Midlands, South Africa.
We first moved to our farm in 2009, and immediately began our journey into the world of keeping chickens. We started off with a flock of egg layers, and received fresh eggs everyday, which was exactly what we'd wanted.
I first started to get interested in show breeds in 2013. My first breeding flock was comprised of 2 Buff Orpington pullets and a cock. I loved them to bits, and this was where I started to experience chicken math
Over the years I've tried many, many different breeds, incubated with broody hens and incubators, made mistakes, had regrets and learnt so much from fellow chicken lovers and personal experience.
Currently I have breeding flocks of Chocolate, Blue and Splash Orpingtons, Wheaten and Silver Partridge Cochin bantams, and a mixed laying flock of Faverolles, Brahmas and Hylines. All my chickens are kept free range, and I try to feed them as naturally as possible.
I look forward to being a part of this wonderful community, and learning more about raising and breeding backyard chickens!
~Hannah
