Our doe became ill a couple of weeks ago and we still have no idea what happened to her. She has gotten better over the two weeks but her progress has stopped and she still isn't able to stand up and move around much. She's still eating and drinking just fine and trying to bathe herself which makes it difficult to know what to do. We hate to see her suffering and her body condition has gone down so dramatically we are thinking we may just have to put her down. All 7 of her babies are doing great and growing like crazy. They are meat rabbits so we always intended on keeping one female and sending the rest to freezer camp but if we put her down we'll need to keep two girls. How long would you wait to let her recover from whatever has happened to her? Two weeks, three weeks, a month? Right now she's pretty much caring for herself just like the other rabbits. She's in her own cage and we take ice bottles out to them every morning and then move the whole crew inside for the hot of the afternoon since the temps have been 105 +. Just don't know what to do. We don't think she'll ever be able to breed again, but she's such a sweet rabbit. Ugh. I hate making this kind of decision.
