I recently received my second flock of chicks through the mail. I was pretty anxious when I did not receive them the next day as I had before(hatch date 5-20-13). Everything was ready for them so I was pretty excited to get them. I got a call 5-22-13 at 5:40 am. I work third shift so I rushed over there as soon as I got off at 6am. After peeking into the box at the post office I found one dead and the rest very noisy. I got them home and put them in their brooder. I was disappointed to find that one of my new chicks was acting strange. She had her head resting on her back and swaying it back and forth. When I held her she was able to hold her neck straight with assistance. I dunked her beak into the water as I got a vital pack with them thinking that maybe it was stress. I did lots of research and found that I may need Poly-Vi-Sol infant vitamins without iron. I bought them on the way home taking a chance that she may not have survived the night. I found her on her back barely breathing. I immediately gave her one drop of the vitamins and within 10 min or less she was holding her head straight and stumbling around less. she was able to stand and drink on her own but will not eat. I have pureed some of her medicated feed and her water together giving that to her by dropper. She even pecks at dropper but she doesn't eat much and isn't interested in the dry food at all. I keep her in a small box in the brooder. Every few hours I go and feed her what little bit she will take. Is there anything else I can do to get her to eat the normal food? She almost looks like a bantam chick next to the others as they are eating and drinking as they should. I put her in with the others for supervised visits so she won't have troubles having to be reintroduced. No one is picking on her but she is getting tossed around and trampled when the other chicks play.
