Tiny egg with no shell, or... what?

Just discovered this in the nest box.

It was the size of an egg yolk, so I assume one of the girls laid a shell-less egg and the white got lost in the hay of the nest box?

I cut it open, and a glob of something the pale yellow color of pus (not the color of any yolk my chickens have ever produced), with no odor, was inside. It was not uniform. It felt like there was a harder glob about the size of a large, slightly flattened marble within the larger glob. As far as consistency goes, the 'marble' was maybe the firmness of fudge, and the rest of the glob was more like custard. All the same color so far as I could tell.

Unfortunately, I went inside to wash my hands before taking more pictures, and the dog ate it. :( So the info above is all I've got.

The chickens are all in good spirits and acting normal. What might this be? A tiny egg with no shell? Nobody is acting sick, but we have just been through 12 days of temperatures between 98 and 109 degrees, so I would believe it if they have been stressed! It's much cooler and overcast today, and if I could this as an egg, everyone laid today.

I got an egg like that once... almost barfed! I would have for sure if the dog ate it though

It's probably just a fluke.

One of my chickens laid something like that also. I asked about it and was told it is called a "fart egg". They said that it happens sometimes in the beginning when the hens first start laying their eggs.

Weird things happen in the reproductive cycle. Small eggs, shell-less eggs, double yolkers, yolkless, meat or blood spots inside.......you name it. As long as every one is acting okay, and it's occasional, it's all good. If you start noticing a pattern there might be an issue, but that's actually pretty rare.
