So, the other day I went to feed my leghorns outside in their feeder and I watched as one of the big roosters walked over and knocked it hard enough to spill feed out to eat it off the ground. He kept doing this until he knocked the entire thing over and ate it off the ground. So, since then, I have just been spreading their feed out on the ground and they seem to love that! Is it ok to do that? lol!

That's what my old neighbors did, but their chickens truely free ranged all the time so not all of them even ate the feed......I guess it worked for them.

My pullets are pretty good about not walking on things, but my rooster walks on anything that gets in his way. Grrr. My feeder and waterer hang, otherwise he would tip them in about 30 seconds.

How do you hang them? What a good idea!

They free range most of the time so actually seem to not eat much feed at all. My meat birds eat SO MUCH it is crazy...I would love to hang their feeders.

I have a feeder like this so it hangs really easily. I don't particularly like that feeder though, it's thin/cheap and flimsy, and the handle popped off so I replaced it with a piece of clothesline wire.

I just have a small plastic bucket hanging on their fence with a carbiner (the kind you put keys on) for water. It's doomed to break in the sun though, so I'm making them a new nipple waterer for their new coop.
