Tips On Building Coop

Do you have anything you really like in your coop or anything that works well? I'm in the middle of building mine, and I want to make sure its perfect!

There is one original thing I did that I don't think I have ever seen here on BYC. I have external nest boxes that stick out of the side of my coup. The roof over the nest boxes is hinged to allow us to collect the eggs. At first it was just a bare plywood roof, but then I put shingles on and that made it so heavy that I was the only one that could lift it. My solution was to add a counter balance using 2 pulleys, steel cable and a piece of 3 inch pvc filled with cement as the counter balance weight. I can post a pic if you would like to see it.
