Tips on keeping noisy chickens quiet?

Help! I have two chickens both about 5 months old. Problem is they (or one?) are very noisy in the morning - getting gradually earlier as it’s summer here (NZ). One sings the egg song from 5.45am very loudly for a good half hour. I feel bad for my neighbours (I’m on an urban section with close neighbors) and the kids and I are getting fed up of the early wake up call!
I left the coop door open the last two days so she can go down to the run but no change.
I don’t know why she’s bawking - maybe wants out of the run (they free range most on the day as the run is only 1.5x2m approx)?
Maybe she’s missing her friend who tends to be in the nesting box?
Maybe she wants the nesting box - I only have one?
Should I try to keep the coop dark for longer??!
Any ideas gratefully received!

Sounds like they are reaching sexual maturity. Some do get louder during that time. Most get quieter after a few months, some continue to be loud.

I don't think you can stop it, as those first eggs and the beginning of egg laying seems to be an exciting time for them.

Could also be they make all that noise to attract a rooster with all the ruckus. They just don't know that there's none around.

I have one that won't shut up when another is in the nesting box that she wants. Adding another box might help, but they might refuse to use it.
Welcome to BYC......good luck!

They started laying about a month ago so fingers crossed they will quieten down soon then!
Thanks :)
You can hope...but I wouldn't bet on it.
All chickens can be very noisy. It may come and go....or not.
Sorry :(

Could be she/they are squawking to be let out.
Might need some behavior modification...
.....only let them range every couple of days, vary the schedule.
Make your run larger too?
