To early or too late?

My neighbour offered me some chicks, that I'll recieve once my coop in done. They are at present just eggs, but he said that I can take them at 1w/k to 3 w/k old. Is this early or late? Will the chicks get stressed out, being separate from their mom? What would you do?

I would take them, say thank you, and put them in a brooder. Either age is fine.

Will they get stressed out? Absolutely. Get ready to hear a lot of distressed peeping. Will they get over it? A whole lot faster than you would expect. And they will probably be very scared of you for the first few days. You are a huge monster that Mama warned them about. But they will get over that after a while too.

Congratulations. Pictures of the prospective parents would be fun but pictures of the chicks is required.
