Looking for opinions on hatching chicks. Do you let your hen hatch with the flock or do you sperate her? If you do seperate her what is the best way to move her without breaking her broodiness? Any other information and advice would be appreciated!
I'm not a broody hen expert, only know what I've read on them. I'm experiencing my first broody now and I moved her out of her flock. For me I didn't want other hens and the roo disturbing her. What I did was set up another coop and run for her. I got the nest box ready for her with fresh straw in. Removed the eggs from underneath her into a carton. I then picked her and the straw she was already nesting in up in one go. Carried her over to the new one and put her down. Gave her the eggs back and she scurried them back under her. She is continuing to sit and it all went well.
I know some let the hen raise them with the flock and don't have problems too. I just felt for me it would be easier with her on her own and I had the extra space available.
