To TREAT, or not to TREAT?

I am fairly new to the whole raising chicken thing and right now I have 2 buff orpingtons around 8 weeks old. At the moment I am feeding them Purina chick feed because the man at the grain store said they don't need adult food until they are ready to lay. I have heard so many mixed messages about whether or not you can give chickens scraps or treats along with their regular diet and would like to know some other peoples opinions.

I would give them treats sparingly. Maybe every few days, a small treat, and work your way up. By the time they start laying, I would give them treats every dinner

They love corn, mealworms, all sorts of fruit and vegetables that would otherwise find themselves in the compost bin, eggs, and some people feed them meat - even chicken

I don't think that's dangerous, but I find it rather sadistic!
