I only have room for 4 hens so ordering from one of the big hatcheries is out. I'm just now ready to purchase chicks and BackYardChickens is sold out of the birds I want for 2010. So I'm down to purchasing chicks from a local feed & fuel or waiting till next February/March to get chicks. And I really hate to wait. The place that has the best selection right now does not get their chicks vaccinated for Marek's.
So my question is, how important is it that they be vaccinated for Marek's disease? From what I'm reading, it sounds important. I'd be heart broken to loose them to this even though they would be quite isolated in my yard. Is it worth finding a vet who will vaccinate them for me? I know some people do this themselves but I don't think I can bring myself to do that.
Looking for any advice you might have to offer.
