To Wash or Not to Wash?

So I don't normally wash our eggs from our chickens but yesterday they were pretty dirty which isn't normal and I had to wash them. The question is, regardless of the amount of yuck on the egg do you leave it as is to preserve it or do you wash it? And if you wash it I thought I read somewhere you can coat the egg with something (can't remember what) to preserve it from bacteria getting in.

Thanks for your input in advance.

If the eggs are dirty enough I wouldn't want to give them away I wash them and put them in the fridge when they dry. I don't worry about coating them with anything, just refrigerate them. These are the ones I eat, but sometimes they are stored for several weeks. The clean ones I store on my kitchen counter.
