Not exactly clear to me. Should I wash eggs before storage or not. Different sources have had differing opinions. "Raising Chickens for Dummies" seems to indicate to always wash eggs before storing. Another source recommended washing just before use as to not remove the natural protective coating, therefore, reducing the potential for harmful bacteria to get inside the egg. It seems obvious to clean a visibly soiled egg carefully before storage but what about a clean-looking egg?? I know not use too much perfumed soap and watch the water temp. Any other hints??

No soap at all, as the naturally porous shells can absorb soap taste. Water should be slightly warmer than the egg temp. If you don't wash your eggs before refrigeration, they will last longer. If you plan on using them quickly, it shouldn't matter if you'd like to wash them before they go in the fridge.

I think it is a personal thing. I read to store eggs with point down so the yolk stays in the center of the egg when you fry it. I also read to wash in warm to hot water to remove any yucky stuff or for some if that doesn't work to use a light sandpaper. If it is clean looking we don't wash any however we keep our nest boxes clean.. No poop in them. There are egg wash solution or detergent like at TSC stores but we personally don't (unless needed ) and it is almost a year and no one has been sick yet.

I spot clean my chicken eggs with warm water and those green scrubbie pads that you get for a buck or two at the store. Duck eggs are another story!! I HAVE to wash and scrub those! and of course, store them fat side up.
