tom mated with hen

my tom mated with my hen for the first time that i know of. how soon should i see her first egg. i just finished building a a very large nest box for her and the chickens. 16 inches wide and six feet long. i am hoping the guineas will lay under it. i have a pice of plywood from the box to the ground open on both ends, and a hole in the middle for them to come and go.

How old is your hen? You built a nesting box for your turkey hen? Good luck with that. Whenever she begins laying eggs, she will lay wherever SHE wants to lay. Mine will lay all over the place. My guineas layed in the woods. The never layed in the nesting boxes.

I never really kept track of when I started to see mating to when the eggs started showing up. The first eggs laid won't be fertile but they make good over easy eggs.

Just keep eating the eggs until you see the bullseye on the yolk. My hens lay in the dog houses in their breeding pens most of the time.
