We have around 30 chickens, 6 guinea, and 1 tom. He thinks of himself as a dog I guess. Follows my wife and I around everywhere. Recently, he has decided to start chasing the smaller children and pecking or attempting to spar them. Any ideas on how to break him of this? Kicking him doesn't seem to work. Don't think I can talk my wife into eating him. Thanks for any ideas in advance

I would build him a nice pen and lock him up. An aggressive turkey is a dangerous turkey. They are strong birds. Since he has no turkey hens for mates he will turn to your other poultry and will possibly kill them.

If I introduce a couple hens for him will he leave the girls alone?
He may or may not. I've never had an aggressive Tom. Imprinting them on humans can cause problems like aggression. Odds are he would still chase your kids. I personally would choose your kids safety over a turkey. It's best to raise turkeys with turkeys so they know what they are to minimize behavioral problems.

Wao! Its very hard to stop him being aggressive. Mine too very aggressive to human which left me with no option than to swap him with another. The more you beat it the more aggressive it becomes. So, the safety of your kids first.

Here is how to train your aggressive tom!

JUST KIDDING! This video is pretty useless, but at least its comical :) We have had toms for almost 2 years now and the best thing I can say is separate him and give him a couple of girls. Do not let your children around him. The older he gets the bigger his spurs and stronger he will be.

PS THEY HOLD A GRUDGE! if you fight/kick them they will want to fight every time they see you. At least that has been my experience with Narragansett toms.
