Too cold?

My coturnix are 4 weeks old, I put them outside in the pen a few days ago and they seem to like it, however it was very windy yesterday and last night was down around 30 or so. They are in a wire pen and I built a box for them to go in at night. We loaded them up with pine shavings last night. When I checked on them this morning, they were all curled up together shaking, 2 were dead and 1 looked dead but I have it in the house under the heat lamp and it hopefully seems to be coming back to life. Any suggestions on how to keep them warmer? Are they just too young for the cold?

They may be too young for the cold. You can try putting the heat lamp in their new outdoor coop. If you already have it in there, you may need to keep them inside for longer.

I wouldn't put quail out into freezing weather before they are completely feathered (around 6 weeks)
