My Wyandotte's hatch date is this coming Sunday, and it's still freezing every night...are we going to lose all the chicks? The forecast for the next week is highs in the 40s and lows in the 30s. We've had successful hatches in the past, but never this early in the year. My beautiful hen will be so sad if she loses all her babies...

I'd love to hear from anyone else in a cool climate about your spring successes. Thanks!

Well, we've had some 40s in the spring here in OH, and a friend of mine had a broody hatch some babies, and they're doing ok. Do you have a place where you can lock them up out of the weather and wind? Mama will keep them warm......

Thanks, Chicmom. They're well out of the weather in the coop, so I'll just trust to nature.

I doubt it. I had a Dom sit on eggs through Jan. Temps dropped below freezing. She hatched 2/2 and both survived. I was shocked to see this little fuzz ball sitting next to momma. Dried and just fine. It went below zero and she did it. I did bring her in afterwards. I had another I put a heat light aimed at her nest. She did good too. She had alot more eggs.

DO YOU HAVE A LITE ON IN THE COOP? I HAVE 250 WATT HEAT LAMB, SO THE EGGS DO NOT GET TOO COOL THAT THE GUINEA HEN IS TRYING TO HATCH.
