I usually wake at 6am just as it is getting light and go to feed the ducks before they wake up the neighbourhood telling everyone they are hungry.....Well this morning at 5.30 am I was woken by...Qwarck Quark Quark quack qwaurk ...... OH NO!!!!!!!!!! I rushed out with some food, but no-one came rushing over like they normally do. The noise continued. I searched the yard, as the only thing I could think of was some kind of intruder. I filled 3 feed bowls and came back inside...But still Quack Quawk Quack.... Right up until I had to leave for work at 7am. At least by then most of the neighbours would have been up but I was so worried someone will call the local council and report my ducks for the noise. I have some pens booked for an Auction in two weeks and just hope they all manage to be quiet in the mornings until then.

They were all back to normal this afternoon after work...Came rushing over for food, so I am sure something was in the yard. I just wish I knew if was a human or animal unwelcome visitor at that time of the morning.

I wish it was just a frog that made them kick up such a fuss.

I have never heard them make so much noise for so long even during the day. Cats will sometimes run throught the yard and they stand there head tilted watching it go. I just know whatever spooked them...I dont ever want it coming back. I know I currently have more ducks than I am allowed, and the neighbours know the young ones are about to be sold, and actualy like my ducks - usually. But I dont want them being woken up at 5.30 in the morning.

I know what ya mean by the noise! I could never live in the suburbs with my 23! They are the NOISIEST bunch tofeed in the morning! They dont even stop honking long enough to eat the corn i put out before they go to honking some more!

One night at about midnight I heard Cocoa going of Quack Quack QUACK QUACK like crazy. She was SO loud I thought for sure she was going to wake everyone up around me. I ran outside and the crickets in the vines on our fence were so loud. Cocoa was standing by the vines quacking her head off like crazy at the crickets.

I smacked the vines and the crickets went quiet and so did Cocoa.

hahaha how cute. my duckies obviously don't quack, so i don'thave this problem, i am sure they would be outside if they did quack. lol the loudest noise i get is my drake thumping around with his big feet or my little girl screaming while i am trying to pick her up.

i hope you get it figured out ducky. did they do it again?

NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! AS if yesterday wasnt bad enough....Last night it started at 1am and continued for just over an hour. And I did see two cats out there this time.

I couldnt do anything with them like put them into the shed - that wouldnt have made more noise. So tonight 11 young ducks half feathered will be in the shed, and 6 of the noisey ducks will be in night boxes. I dont know what I will be able to orgainse in such short time, but I have to try something. The drakes can stay out, as they arent too bad....But NO QUAWK QUWARK Tonight or I will need to go stay in a motel to get some sleep. I will also be apologising to the neighbours....And letting them know about the night boxes and the fact that most of the offending ducks will be sold in two weeks.

I have had noisey ducks before...but never this many, and yes newchickmom09 ...mine usually settle down once they are around 24 weeks or so.

I wonder if maybe I should buy all my neighbours ear plugs just in case the night boxes dont work tonight.

maybe give them nyquil and they will sleep all night HAHAHA that's my solution for any sleep issues. i tell my sister with 4 crazy kids the same thing, she thinks i am kidding, but i'm not lol.

I was sooo frustrated last night, I wished for a quick fix like taping their beaks. I was pacing the house waiting for it to stop trying to think of anything I could do. I woke my daughter up for a quick chat at about 1.30 am, and she doesnt remember it this morning. She slept through the duck noise and her room is at the back of the house. Mine is at the front. I am thinking my hearing is so attuned to ducky noises at night I am maybe thinking it was louder than it actually was. I hope so anyway.

But at least tonight I shall get some sleep. The duckies will not like sleeping in boxes im sure. But hopefully a few nights should help them settle down again.
