Too late to use broody hen?

We had planned to let a broody hen try to hatch some eggs this year then no one went broody. Until today! We have 8 eggs in the incubator ready to lock down in about 24 hours. Is it too late to try to give them to my broody Rambo? My guess is yes. If yes, will they ever take the babies newly hatched? Would be great to not have to use the heat lamps....

Usually you’ll want a broody to be really set in her ways. She should be broody for a couple weeks before attempting giving her live chicks. And of course, be ready in case it doesn’t take. Put them under her at night or SUPER early morning.

You can always try putting one egg underneath her and see what happens. Make sure that she is completely committed before doing so. You don't want her to not be fully broody and jeopardize all your eggs. Some hens will be fine to take on chicks that early. Others will be confused and attack them.

That makes sense! We may just let her have her own hatch and see how it goes. I'm guessing we won't have trouble giving away chicks.
