I’m looking for advice on how to find homes for the excess drakes we have. Got 8 from the farm supply in April and now that they’re getting their adult plumage I’m pretty sure all of them or at least 7 are drakes as they all have green feathers coming in on their heads.
Also, the female ducks I purchased sexed from the hatchery sound distinctly different than them.
As I have 10 ducks I am only considering keeping 3 drakes which leaves me with 3 WH and 2 Rouens needing homes.
Any advice on where to start looking would be appreciated. I’m in the Black Hills of South Dakota if that makes a difference.

They’re nice funny birds and I enjoy watching them, but I don’t have the ability to build a separate enclosure for the drakes right now and I don’t want to compromise the ducks since egg production is a goal for next year.

3 to 7 drake to duck ratio would still be off. But, to get rid of them, you could post here on byc on your state thread or on craigslist. Or the stew pot? I don't know that I could do the last one, but that is where a lot of drakes end up.

I reread your post. I think you have 10 ducks and want to keep 3 drakes. So that is a total of 13. That is better, but 2 drakes in that scenario would be best.

Yes, it would be 3 to 10. The 3 I’m considering keeping are the ones who get along with each other the best. If I find I need to get rid of more I can, but I’m hoping it will work out ok.

They free range for a few hours a day. The rest of the time they are in a 300sq ft enclosure.

I’m not violently opposed to that, I just know I couldn’t butcher them myself. They’re beautiful birds. I’m hoping I can find someone who would like to keep them.
