Every time we discuss rebuilding it gets more and more involved and expensive. I'm of the mindset that it's just a chicken coop -- it doesn't need to be the Taj Mahal. He feels that if you go to the trouble to build something, you do it right, and you don't just slap it together.

Wow! I just had deja vu when I read that. My DH and I had a similar discussion. We ended up purchasing a prefab chicken pen because he never had time to build one and the chickens were starting to take over the garage.

Good choice to use the barn I think. It's too wonderful not to use it for something, it's awesome. I'm jealous.

Wow - that is a beautiful barn! There's enough room for a big flock *and* and big annual hoe-down to boot!

Yeah, it is pretty awesome, isn't it? Once I wrapped my head around not having a brand-spankin' new coop with pristine insides, and I realized just how lucky I am to have all this space to work with, I started to get more excited. It's going to be a really nice space when I'm done.
