Well, after reading BYC's forums now, as much as my eyeballs will permit, I discover a good balance is 1 roo per 10 chickens? Oh my! I have 11 birds altogether, and 3 definate roos! I would like to keep them all, but don't know what all to expect behavour-wise with 3 roos! They are still relatively young birds, but as they get older, I'm worried they will start fighting. And I think there may be some frustration showing already. From the roos, and alittle from me. (NO EGGS from the hens.) So far, no real problems. Alittle chasing, alittle feather pulling, and some courting going on, and alot of crowing, of course.

Thankfully, they all go to bed and sleep soundly thru the night. And no complaints from anyone, but I still worry that excessive crowing is going to get on someone's nerves. Should I find a home for 1 or 2 of my roos? I would sure hate to part with them, but "ya do what ya gotta do", in some cases.

My little "black Banty", whom I call Little Man, is so sweet! From reading the forums, I think he is courting me! And his hard pecks on my legs I think are meant to try to get me to mind him. (All the hens run away from him when he gives chase, and I'm the only one he can "catch"!) I adore him to death, and wouldn't want to see him get hurt from my big EE roo. Will chickens fight to the death? Is there a chance they'll harm each other seriously? I know they establish a pecking order, but I don't want anyone of them seriously injured. Can someone help me out here, please? They're approxiamately between 5 and 6 months old.

for me...I would only have 1 roo-they will fight-heard they can until their death. If its only what and how you explain their little tiffs -you may be ok. They are still young though-I would get rid of at least one to make it less stressful on the hens-they will get overmated:-(

Hey Featherpants,

I say it is up to you if you want to house them all together. There will be a pecking order among the males for top roo position. Some breeds will fight to the death due to beed others wont. I had a Red cochin, his son and a EE roo together. They were fine infact the order of the listing was the pecking order. As long as they have enough space to live with each other. they will be fine in my opinion. But if noise w/ neighbors becomes an issue you may have to choose one. But I do not know the laws of poultry in your area. There are feral birds running around my area and no complaints yet.
If you do not know who is the king roo yet you will see it come out either when you socialize w/ them or at the food dish or when you let them range, if you let them range. So try it out and observe. I had a roo get upset when i was carrying a lower ranking roo. But he just wanted to be carried. In fact the bugger crowed in my ear when I did carry him. HAHAHA..

Aloha,
