Too old to be tamed?

I have two chicks that were already 17 days old when my boyfriend and I them. They have been with us for only four days, but their behavior (anxiety from human presence and crying loudly/completely freaking out with being touched or picked up) worries me.
The younger chicks in the group have only been with us one more day, but they are much more docile and don't freak out like crazy when being handled.

One of these older chicks is a Salmon Faverolle, which I got because I had read extensively that they have a consistent reputation for being extremely friendly, docile, and make great pets. But my faverolle is by far the most skittish bird. She is terrified of me.

The other older chick is a blue langshan and will occasionally eat out of our hands. Usually, however, she bolts in the opposite direction of us, like the faverolle.

What techniques can I use to tame these girls? I have been spending a lot of time holding them (to the point that now I'm worried that I'm not giving the other chicks enough attention...). I usually try to stroke their back or cup them in my hands.
Will it just take more time and effort before these chicks begin to get used to us, or are they just too old to be tamed?

I don't think they are too old to be tamed just move slow and lots of treats so they look forward to seeing you. I find when my chicks are in a small brooder/pen they are more reactive but, once I move them to a larger pen they get more curious and calm down when I come in to sit with them.

my chicks freek out if i go to pick them up with hand hovering over them but if i start at there breat bone and pick them up they are a lot better i think becasue there pray animals hovering abouve them like a egale or hawk scares them just my thought i have only had mine for 2 weeks now but do notice big diffrance at the way you go at them i also talk to mine alot and make a cluk sound with my toug and shs sound hope it helps dotn give up on them give them time to relize your not going to eat them (we at least not at this very moment
