My girls had a respiratory illness spread through the coop. Patient 0, Melba, was starting to do get over the cough and sniffles when I put the whole flock on Tylosin. She completely lost the cough and rales but the morning of day 3 of antibiotics she became lethargic, hunched up, drinking but not eating, not really pooping. Today is day 2 of the same. I’ve attached pics to help illustrate. Any thoughts as to what it could be? I gave them all yogurt the evening of day 2 when she was perfectly fine and energetic, and then she was yucky the next day. She is extremely skittish and she won’t let me touch her so I can’t feel crop, though it looked flat, and can’t check her vent closely, but did look like there a bit discharge. Please, any advice is appreciated!!!!

Are most of her droppings yellowish or green? Does she normally lay eggs? I would try to get her taking the Tylosin with a dropper or syringe. Can you offer her some moistened feed and scrambled egg?

So far her droppings have been that green color, and not much of it. She was laying up until a few days ago, and her eggs were healthy looking. I was worried it was the antibiotics wiping out her good bacteria. She has been drinking the antibiotic water pretty religiously.

I put out some electrolyte/probiotic water today and stopped the Tylsoin since they had 3 days, which was the minimum on the package. I just came home this evening to her having more pep in her step. I’m hoping this is an upward trend.

Thank you for replying!

Let us know how she gets along. You can offer her probiotics, such as Probios or the generic powder in water, or a good plain yogurt with live cultures.
Good news! Melba bounced back! I stopped the Tylosin and pumped the electrolytes and probiotics. She’s back to eating and drinking like normal. Still waiting for normal poops and for egg schedule to get back on track, but honestly just happy she is feeling better!
