I have had this batch of hens for about 3 years and I just noticed something. On a few of the hens the top beak was shorter that teh bottom one. Like I said, I just noticed this today so they could have been that way all along, but I'm pretty close to my hens and I would think I would have noticed it.

Anybody else had this happen? Could this just be from age?

Some hatcheries, if they provide chicks to battery or production facilities, remove a portion of the beak so that the chickens are less able to peck one another. You may have gotten such a lot; although, it is hard to imagine that you would not have noticed this previously. I don't know of anything else that might cause this to happen.

That's what I was thinking, I hand feed my chickens almost every day so it looks like I would have noticed. But stranger things have happened! lol
