I finally found an idea that I am happy with for my supports. It's clean looking and fastened at both ends. I made them out of boat bimini parts and 7/8 dowels. If I can go down the lake at 50 MPH and these parts don't break, they should hold up well for this. The dowel slides into the 7/8" Nylon Outside Eye End, there is a set screw, if you want to secure the dowel. I might drill a hole all the way through and use a cotterless hitch pin. This way I can change out the 4 different dowel lengths I made easier. The longest dowel is 48", it holds my window straight up. Here's links for the bimini parts I used.

How did you make the boarder of these windows? What size wood did you use?

How did you make the boarder of these windows? What size wood did you use?

I used 1 x 4's for the for the window frames and trim.
To make the border (frames), I made a square with the 1 x 4 wood and put them together with a Kreg jig pocket hole system. After they were made, I used a rabbet bit with my router to notch out where the glass would sit. I routed the front of the frame to put the glass in, then used glazing push points and glazing compound to hold the glass in. I put the glass in from the front, so there was no pressure on the pins or glazing, since the windows would be open to some degree all year long. If you look at the backside of the frame, you can see where I used the Kreg jig in the corners. I put 2 screws in each corner. I used old storm windows that I purchased from Habitat restore, for the glass. I cut the glass to fit the frames. It was cheaper than buying glass at Lowes, I paid $2.00 for each storm window. If you cut your own glass make sure it is not tempered, it will shatter, not cut!
