Top of coop?

What should I cover my top of coop with? I know they need shade and I have a shade tarp. I am concerned with predictors. I plan on locking them up in their house at night, but in the winter I don't get home until after dark. I am using part of a dog kennel. We have hawks, owls, raccoons, skunks, possums, dogs and cats and I live in TOWN. One night a very big raccoon got in the kennel with my 2 dogs. All three of them were scared to death. Right now they are in my bathroom, but that cannot last forever. They are only a month old but have grown so much.

I don't have ducks, I have chickens but we used welded wire on top of the run. Here is a picture...
